School Lunch Prices Going Up In Waterford

Students will need more bread for school meals this year. Prices are going up by 25 cents.

You'll have to send your children to school with a little more money in their pockets for lunch this year. The prices for school lunch are going up by 25 cents. The Board of Education approved the increase at its meeting in April.

Waterford School Superintendent Jerome Belair said that the price the district had been charging for school lunches was less than the reimbursement rate for students receiving free lunch. The National School Lunch Program reimbursement for free lunch is not intended to subsidize the cost for students on reduced or full price lunch, he noted.

At the recommendation of the superintendent, the board approved raising school lunch, breakfast, and adult meal prices by 25 cents, and raising the price of milk by 10 cents if milk was purchased separately from the meal.

With the increase, the price of meals this year in the elementary schools is going up to $2.50 for lunch, $1.50 for breakfast. Middle School and High School students will pay $1.75 for breakfast, $2.75 for lunch. The price of milk is going up from 50 cents to 60 cents if purchased separately.
