What's Going On This Weekend

Beach Fun; Concerts

Thursday, July 21

Reggae time at Hot Rod's Cafe in New London.  Check out DJ Blademan and DJ P-Slim play the songs to take you away to the islands.  Music starts at 9 p.m. but you can always go in earlier and try some of their amazing wings.

Vino lover?  Tonight, cool down with a glass of white at the Jonathan Edwards Winery.  From 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Sunday Gravy will be playing live.

White Party is here again at Shrine.  Kelly Bensimon from The Real Housewives of New York City will be hosting this white event. Bensimon attended Trinity College here in Connecticut before she moved on to modeling, editing The Hamptons Magazine and appearing in Playboy.  Wear white and dance the night away. Last year, my girlfriends and I wore white and got in for free however they charged the guys $15. Either way, we all had a blast.

Friday, July 22

From 6p.m. to 11p.m. Clinton will be a buzz! The Blue Fish Festival is taking place at the Andrews Memorial Town Hall.  Fishing tourneys, live music, contests, battle of the bands, chowder cook off, activities for kids, various vendors, and entertainment.

Rihanna and Cee Lo Green will rock it "hard" at Mohegan Sun. Show starts at  8p.m. The Barbados babe is most known for her pop R&B singles such as "Pon De Replay", "Disturbia", "Hard" and my personal fave "Don't Stop the Music".  Her more recent hits include "Whats My Name?"  and "Only Girl in the World" from the album Loud.  Cee Lo Green worked with Gnarls Barkley in the hit, "Crazy" and more recently known for his PG rated song, "Forget You" (also known as "**** You").  Maybe Rihanna was trying to send a message to Chris by featuring Cee Lo? Tickets are selling for about $75.

Going to the other casino? Stop by Hard Rock Cafe, Jay Dempsey and the Highway Call will be playing at 10:30p.m.  Admission is free. The food is good and their music is even better!

Can you sing? The Pavilion in Soundview of Old Lyme is hosting a "Soundview Idol". All the belting starts at 9p.m.  Order a Long Island before you hit the stage to help loosen up!

Oceanside Beer and Wine Tasting in Westerly, Rhode Island.  The Westerly Yacht club is hosting this fundraiser. There will be raffles, music, and contests.  They are also advertising a $100 door prize.  Cost is $25 per person in advance, or $30 per person at the door. Go to SouthernRivol.org for more information.

It will be about 95 degrees, so hit the beach! At Paddy's, "CT's Favorite Dance Party Band" will be throwing it down. The Buzz is a four member group all from Connecticut. I have spoken to the band via internet and learned that is Darrell from Norwich and Jay is from East Lyme.  This is a high energy band that will get you out of your seat.  Expect to hear a sampling of Lady Gaga, Black Eyed Peas, Journey, Bon Jovi - all party worthy songs! So get some sun, but pace yourself because the show starts at 9:30p.m.  Get Buzzed!

If your not a beach bum, Tim McGraw will light up the Mohegan Arena at 8 p.m.  Tickets are about $80, but who wouldn't pay that to see the hottest guy in country?

Not into R&B or country?  If metal is more of your style, head to the Comcast theater.  The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival in Hartford is here! Disturbed, Godsmack, Megadeath, Machinehead, In Flames will blow you away. Tickets range from $25 to $75 depending on seating.

Stay cool, have fun!
