Waterford Youth Services Now Accepting Donated Turkeys

After receiving thousands of non-perishable food items through "Stuff the Bus," Waterford Youth Services is now collecting frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving baskets.

The Waterford Youth Services Bureau is now collecting frozen turkeys for Thanksgiving to serve to Waterford’s most needy.

Each year, the youth services bureau makes up food baskets to give to Waterford’s neediest families for Thanksgiving. The baskets have all the food needed for the Thanksgiving dinner and dessert.

On Friday, the bureau held is annual “Stuff a Bus” event, where elementary school students donated thousands of non-perishable food items. Now, the only thing the meal baskets are missing is frozen turkeys, which youth services has begun to collect.

To donate a frozen turkey, bring it to the Waterford Youth Services Bureau at 200 Boston Post Road during regular business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The baskets go to low-income families or to people who have recently sustained a tragedy in their lives.

Generally, around 70 Waterford families are served through the Thanksgiving program, according to Waterford Youth Services Director Dani Gorman.
