On May 26, the duck pond within Civic Triangle Memorial Park will be renamed the Arnold E. Holm Jr. Memorial Park.

Holm was a Waterford war hero who died in 1972 in Vietnam, when the helicopter he was flying was shot down. It took 39 years and the help of class after class of Waterford High School students to find Holm's body. In 2011, his body was finally brought home and he was buried at Arlington National Ceremony.

In the summer of 2012, Holm's best friend, Bill Cavalieri, asked if the duck pond at Civic Triangle Park would be renamed after Holm. Cavalieri said Holm walked past the duck pond every day on his way to school.

The Recreation and Parks Commission agreed and since people have raised money for the new signs and a stone memorial for Holm. On May 26, at 11 a.m. - the day before Memorial Day - there will be a ceremony for the renaming of the pond to the Arnold E. Holm Jr. Memorial Park.
