Snow Daze: No School And State Employees Have A Late Start Today

This morning's commute could be messy but the snow should be gone by this afternoon.

We're waking up to snow, still. Overnight accumulations were expected to amount to five to eight inches, with an additional one to two inches expected Friday.Weather.com says it's going to be windy and cold, with a high of 17 degrees today. The wind chill will make it feel much colder, near 15 degrees below zero.

A winter storm warning remains in effect until 1 p.m. and blowing snow could cause drifting and make visibility a problem. The good news: the snow is expected to taper off this afternoon and tonight should be clear.

So here's what's happening, or rather, what's not happening today:

  • Waterford Public Schools will be closed for a snow day.
  • The Francis X. Sweeney Field House Dedication Ceremony, previously scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Saturday, January 4 at the Waterford High School Field House at 6:45 p.m.  The ceremony will take place between the Waterford vs. New London girls basketball game (5:00 p.m.) and the Waterford vs. New London boys basketball game (7:30 p.m.).
  • Jurors don't have to report for duty in state courts today.
  • Nonessential state employees don't have to show up to work until 9:30 a.m., per order of the governor.
  • The Department Of Motor Vehicles has canceled all road tests for Friday. Anyone with a scheduled road test can call DMV to choose a new date at 800-842-8222.
If you know of additional cancellations, please spread the word by posting in the comments section.
