How Do You Raise a 65-Foot Boat? Very Carefully!

The Nino, which sank off the Waterford coast on Saturday, was raised from the water on the north side of Two Tree Island on Tuesday and transported without incident to Noank.

The Nino, a 65-foot Vicem yacht that sank on June 22 after running into Little Goshen Reef, was salvaged on Tuesday by TowboatUS of Mystic.

TowboatUS company owner Capt. Jeff Dziedzic used a 160-ton crane to hoist the vessel aboard the largest barge in Southeastern Connecticut.

The trickiest part of the salvage operation was working through two strong tide cycles, Dziedzic said, but the boat was safely transported to Noank and the oil and diesel that had been leaking from the boat at one point was environmentally contained.
