Daily Five: Proposed Quaker Hill Farm

Five things to know for Wednesday, April 10, 2013.

1. Today, there is a 40 percent chance of showers, with a high around 67, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight there is a 50 percent of showers, with a low around 48, according to the service.

2. At their last meeting on March 28th, the Conservation Commission heard a proposal by Jack Burton Ashcraft to turn 194 Bloomingdale Road into a farm to raise chickens and goats and to possibly have a farm stand there in the future.

At the meeting, Ashcraft’s agent James Bernardo said Ashcraft was planning to turn the 42-acre property into a farm to raise chickens and goats and perhaps have a farm stand there, according to the meeting’s minutes. Ashcraft is proposing to create two other lots in the property, both approximately two acres, which could both accomodate single-family homes.

The commission said it will hear more about the application at its next meeting on Thursday. 

3. We will have more reminders as the date comes closer, but on Saturday, April 20th Waterford will hold a grand opening ceremony for the new Waterford High School.

There will be tours of the new addition to the school, which is part of a $67 million renovation of the property. There also will be food and music. The event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the school. 

4. This evening, the Board of Finance will meet at 7 in Town Hall.

The board will discuss a proposal by the Recreation and Parks Commission to raise the entrance fees at Waterford Beach and discuss a proposed $143,180 appropriation to fix and replace the roof and gutters at the police station. The meeting is open to the public and there is time for public comment at the beginning of the meeting.
