Daily Five: Montville, NL, EL, OL Dogs Coming To Waterford?

Five things to know for Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

1. Today should be mostly sunny, with a high around 64, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight there is a 40 percent chance of rain after 10, with a low around 44, according to the service.

2. Monday night, at Montville's Public Safety Committee meeting, Montville Mayor Ron McDaniel said he is working with New London, Waterford, Old Lyme and East Lyme to form a regional animal shelter.

McDaniel said the shelter would most likely be built in Waterford, at the spot where the existing Waterford-East Lyme shelter is, behind the Waterford Police Department. Waterford's Animal Control Facility Study Ad Hoc Committee has raised more than $115,000 for a new animal shelter and New London is getting FEMA funds to fix its shelter, which got damaged during Superstorm Sandy, McDaniel said.

McDaniel said special legislation is required to be able to have New London join in with the rest of the towns. He said the hope is to build a better, cheaper animal shelter, although there are still many obstacles to overcome.

3.  Waterford's "Liz" likes to do large, difficult puzzles. She has a large spherical one of a pack of wolves and two others that are 1,000 pieces. She is looking for someone who also enjoys puzzles to trade puzzles with. Can you help her out (more information here)?

And p.s., to make a request like Liz did, post it on our "Buy-Sell-Trade" board. To post there, click here

4.  This evening at 6:30 at the Waterford Public Library, there will be a showing of "Hot Coffee," with Humbert Polito from Waterford's Polito & Quinn leading a discussion following the film.

The movie is about the infamous case where a woman spilled hot coffee on herself from McDonalds and then sued the company, winning millions. Polito and the movie will argue that this is good, and talk about the importance of being able to sue large corporations as a way to keep them in-check.
