Five things to know for Thursday, April 11, 2013.

1. Today there is a chance of light rain, with a high around 52, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight there is a 70 percent chance of rain, with a low around 39, according to the service. 

2. A big Patch shout out to 9-year-old Alli Silva, who raised $101.05 for the Waterford-East Lyme Animal Shelter.

Silva ran lemonade stands and vegetable stands, where she earned the $101.05, according to Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control’s Facebook page. She donated that money to help the animals at the shelter, according to the Facebook page. 

3. Some notable events going on today. This afternoon at the Waterford Public Library, Zero Dark Thirty (R) – an Oscar nominated film about the group of Navy SEALS that killed Osama bin Laden – plays from 1:30 to 4:30. 

Tonight at 7, Waterford North Little League is holding its regular monthly meeting at the Waterford North Little League Complex at Quaker Hill Elementary School. All interested parties are welcome to attend.

4. Also tonight, the Conservation Commission meets at 7 in Town Hall. 

The group will hear a proposal by Jack Burton Ashcraft to turn 194 Bloomingdale Road into a farm to raise chicken and goats, along with other items on the agenda. The meeting is open to the public.

5. On this date in 1775, the last execution for witchcraft in Germany took place. And on this date in 1979, after being responsible for killing more than 100,000 of his citizens, dictator Idi Amin was exiled from Uganda.
