Creative Cakes For A Cause At Oswegatchie

At Cub Scout Pack 36's annual Cake Bake Monday, it was an eagle by the Tribolet boys that soared highest.

Twenty cakes, ranging from a Goodyear tire to the Blue Angels flying over a forest, filled Oswegatchie Elementary School Monday evening for Cub Scout Pack 36's annual Cake Bake fundraiser.

For the event, students make creative cakes, which are awarded prizes for being the tallest, the most patriotic, the most original, the most colorful, the best scout depiction and for being the judges' favorite. This year, Aiden and Kolby Tribolet's cake, which was a white cake with a picture of an eagle on it, was picked as the judges' favorite.

After the judging, the cakes were raffled off, which raised several hundred dollars for the Connecticut chapter of the Red Cross. While some cakes did well, none matched the legend of the hamburger cake several years back that garnered a $180 bid.

The judges for the event were First Selectman Dan Steward, Bob Godfrey, who has been involved in Waterford scouts for more than 50 years, and Waterford Patch Editor Paul Petrone.
