United Way Announces More Than $2.7 Million in Funding
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut’s Board of Directors has approved fund distributions in the amount of $2,725,922 for the fiscal year 2014-15. This funding supports 51 programs at 21 nonprofit organizations in New London County that, working together, help advance the common good for everyone.
In addition to these distributions, United Way 2-1-1 receives $54,140. 2-1-1 is a 24-hour information and referral helpline that is available free of charge to anyone in Connecticut. 2-1-1 is a partnership between Connecticut United Ways and the State of Connecticut. The American Red Cross will also receive $66,372 for two programs – Armed Forces Emergency Services and Disaster Services.
Leading the program review and fund distribution each year are trained volunteers who live or work in New London County. Volunteer teams are convened to evaluate program performance and analyze program results. There is a separate volunteer Financial Review Panel with fiscal expertise that carefully assesses the financial health of all agencies.
