Acupuncture for Veterans, Military

Licensed Acupuncturist David LoPriore, a 25-year practitioner of Asian medicine, began offering a Community Acupuncture for Veterans (CAV) program on March 18 at the East Lyme Community Center, 41 Society Road, Niantic.

Over the last 40 years, community-style (group) acupuncture has proven highly effective for treating emotional problems, chronic pain, Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS), substance abuse, insomnia and more. It has been used in disaster relief efforts in many areas of the world to bring quick relaxation from the high stress of war, natural disaster and other devastating events.

The CAV program, which is sponsored by local businesses and individuals, will be made available to veterans and active military on the following days of each month on an ongoing basis:

Acupuncture treatment is available for free or the following rates: $5, $10, or $20 – depending on a participant's needs and availability of donated funds that subsidize treatment. Veterans and active-duty military service members interested will not have to answer intake questions but simply present a military ID, DD214 or other identifying documentation.

At CAV treatment events, attendees will not be required to talk if they do not wish to, but may elect to request treatment for their individual symptoms. LoPriore says that vets will simply sit quietly and relax as a painless acupuncture treatment helps them find a peaceful calm.
