Southeastern Conn. School Districts Consider Sharing Buses

Buses to out-of-town magnet and specialized high schools would be combined

A bus sharing program is in the works for Southeastern Connecticut school districts, The Bulletin reported.

The idea is to combine buses for students who attend out-of-town magnet and specialized high schools, which, according to Doreen Marvin, director of development at LEARN, could save each district about $50,000 a year, she said in the article.

“For our inland districts, there are more opportunities for them to pick each other up along the way if they have to go to Grasso or the marine science school (in Groton) or (in New London),” Marvin said in the article.

“It’s a scheduling issue,” North Stonington Business Manager Chuck McCarthy said in the article. "We can get our kids to Regional Multicultural Magnet in New London, but we can’t get them to the in Waterford without putting them on another bus," he said, noting that the schools' start times are so close.
