School Construction Update

Pool, Field House And More

At Tuesday’s School Building Committee meeting, Project Manager Gus Kotait of O & G Industries Here are some highlights from his presentation, all attributed to him unless otherwise noted:

, and has been used by the high school swim team since last week for practice. There is an issue with the quality of the tiling at the pool, Kotait said. The tile was not laid straight, the grout is not consistent and there are spots where water ponds, he said.

“It’s unacceptable,” Superintendent Jerry Belair said.

The contractor will come back and fix the tile later, Kotait said.

The fieldhouse is almost complete. Exit signs are being put in today, and it should be done by the end of the week.

are finished, and have been turned over to the town.

The entire steel frame is complete. Almost all the roof trusses have been installed as well.

Much of the interior brick wall is complete. Plastic is being put over the windows, and temporary heaters should be put in the new construction soon. Next week, the brick veneer will start to be put up on the outside of the building. Windows should start to be installed by the end of January.

Metal stairs should start to be installed in three weeks.

All 150 wells needed for the geothermal heating and cooling system have been drilled, and the site backfilled.

In other news, the building committee is redesigning the school cafeteria after the current plans did not have enough seats to accommodate a full lunch period. The committee agreed to work out the problem at the next meeting, and figure out who is going to pay for the mistake: the architect, for not designing the cafeteria properly, or the town.
