Five Things To Know For Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012
1. Today should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 48, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight should be cloudy, with a low around 39, according to the service.
2. Just a quick clarification by First Selectman Dan Steward on the proposed agreement between Waterford and East Lyme to share dispatch services. Waterford will take on the four East Lyme employees as dispatchers, and East Lyme will pay the costs of those four to Waterford, Steward said. The four will be Waterford employees, he said.
The move would save Waterford money on overtime, Steward reiterated Monday.
3. Tonight are some of the Board of Selectmen’s most significant budget reviews, with the board reviewing some of the largest town-side budgets. Tonight at 5 inside Town Hall, the Board of Selectmen will review the budgets of the fire services, public works, finance department, human resources, legal services, debt services, recreation and parks and community use of schools.
4. There is a Waterford High School boys’ lacrosse meeting today after school outside the auditorium. Any student interested in playing boys’ lacrosse should go.
5. On this date in 1990, thanks to the fall of the Berlin Wall and end of Communism, the first McDonald's opens in the Soviet Union in Moscow. And today Justin Timberlake turns 31.
